A U.S. study by UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas has found that fat from certain foods such ice cream and burgers heads to the brain.

Once there, the fat molecules trigger the brain to send messages to the body's cells, warning them to ignore the appetite-suppressing signals from leptin and insulin, hormones involved in weight regulation — for up to three days.

"Normally, our body is primed to say when we've had enough, but that doesn't always happen when we're eating something good," said researcher Deborah Clegg in a statement.

"What we've shown in this study is that someone's entire brain chemistry can change in a very short period of time. Our findings suggest that when you eat something high in fat, your brain gets "hit" with the fatty acids, and you become resistant to insulin and leptin.

"Since you're not being told by the brain to stop eating, you overeat."

The researchers also found that one particular type of fat — palmitic acid which is found in beef, butter, cheese and milk, is particularly effective at instigating this mechanism.

Beet Juice for Athletes

A new study from the United Kingdom suggests that beetroot juice boosts stamina and may help you exercise for 16% longer. This is because the nitrate it contains reduces your body's oxygen uptake which makes exercise less tiring. This was published in the August 6 issue of the Journal of Applied Physiology.

Indeed, Professor Andy Jones of the University of Exeter's School of Sport and Health Sciences and colleagues found that drinking beet juice reduces oxygen uptake more than can be achieved by any other known means, and that includes training.

An another benefit of the beet juice consumption found in this study was a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure. VITAFORCE contains the highest quality certified organic beet juice.

Can vitamin D increase weight loss?

A recent study was conducted to determine whether baseline vitamin D levels before beginning a calorie restricted diet would affect subsequent weight loss. The authors of the study found that pre-diet vitamin D levels predicted weight loss in a linear relationship. In other words, within reason, the higher the blood levels of vitamin D that a person had before starting the calorie restricted diet, the more weight that person lost.

According to Shalamar Sibley, MD, MPH, an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota, the results of the study suggest "...the possibility that the addition of vitamin D to a reduced-calorie diet will lead to better weight loss."

So, you can possibly add weight loss to the many benefits of vitamin D. VITAFORCE contains 250% of your recommended daily value of Vitamin D.

Welcome to the Dynamics of Nature Blog

Hello Everyone-

We just created a blog so we can bring you all kinds of great news and tips related to nutrition and general health as well as our continued commitment to the highest quality products and our community.
